Vanportal Snapchat Lens
Old Hara Studios collaborated with the University of Oregon and Vanport Mosaic in Portland to develop an educational Snapchat Lens called Vanportal. The experience became available to the public for the first time at the 2023 Vanport Mosaic Festival and allows users to go on a virtual tour of Vanport, Oregon as it existed before it was devastated by a flood in 1948. Vanportal highlights the history of racial discrimination and the influence of redlining in the displacement of the Black community after the disaster.
This project aims to spread awareness and start discussions about how to more equitably manage disaster preparedness and response in the future. It’s so important to learn from the past and work to prevent similar scenarios from happening again as we face more and more climate disasters in the coming decades.
